As some of you may know or have heard, Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer in late July. Susan has always been diligent about her annual exams so we are fortunate and optimistic to have caught this early.
On 16 August 2012 she had a small tumor removed at Genesis West in Davenport, IA. Unfortunately it involved two of her lymph nodes. The prognosis is very good with a combination of treatments over the next several months. She will start chemotherapy soon, followed with a regime of radiation. It's likely she will have hormone therapy after that just to be sure it's gone forever!
Susan has many things working in her favor. Susan has a very strong Christian faith. She is young, post-menopausal, quite healthy, she is very positive, has a wonderful supportive family and large circle of friends to support her. She says with a smile that she "accepts all prayers willingly". I'll go a bit further and ask for your prayers.
We've planned to relocate to a warmer winter location and to get started were going to spend this winter in Florida. With our parents needing help more frequently now, we decided to put all those plans on hold for the time being. There's no reason we need to be further away from them than what we are already today. So, we'll Winter in Iowa this year. Like Susan reminds me, we have lots of retirement to enjoy!
We are fortunate to have excellent care for this disease in the Quad City Area.
In this blog we'll keep you apprised of our situation and hope you'll check in and maybe leave a note or two. Write Susan at susanpigg@mcshi.com or me at rogerpigg@mchsi.com
Our brother-in-law John made a change in his clubs in support of breast cancer. Thanks John!
Great way to keep everyone "posted" Roger & Susan. You've got a super support group of family and friends so, know you're in our daily thoughts and prayers. This year has been one to bring our already close knit family together, more that ever it seems, and only wish it were for better reasons! Guess it's a test for us all!
